I’ll be honest: I’d been hearing about power factor correction for years.

Every time an engineer or consultant brought it up, I had the same reaction: “Yes, it sounds sensible, but I need to see results I can feel and measure. And besides, I don’t want to tie up capital for something that takes years to pay back.”

Like most Managing Directors, I prioritized Capex for projects that moved the needle immediately, new plant, expansion, systems upgrades. Power factor correction just didn’t fit that category. It looked like a cost-saving measure that would sit quietly in the background while everyone forgot about it.

Then I learned about Power Factor Wizard. Suddenly, there was no upfront Capex. That was the tipping point for me. I realized I could finally get the benefits, lower bills, improved capacity, and reduce carbon without waiting years to justify the spend. For the first time, the risk and the financial drag disappeared.

In My Experience

“Didn’t you feel you’d get bogged down in another complex project?”

That was my biggest fear. But the truth is, I barely noticed it happening. The installation was handled end-to-end, no disruption, no endless meetings. My team had more hassle upgrading the coffee machine than we did with this.

“What about the numbers? Were the savings real?”
Absolutely. I had my finance director keep a close eye on the bills, and the difference was clear within the first quarter. We freed up electrical capacity too, which meant we avoided an even bigger spend on infrastructure upgrades down the line.

“How did you get it past the board?”
I didn’t have to justify a Capex case. Once I explained that this wasn’t a capital purchase but a performance improvement that pays for itself, there were no objections. Everyone agreed it made sense.

“But what if you’d needed that capital elsewhere?”
That’s the beauty of it, we kept our capital free for visible growth projects. In fact, the timing worked out perfectly: while we were investing in new equipment, Power Factor Wizard was quietly trimming the operating costs in the background.

“Was it worth it, compared to other efficiency projects?”

Yes, because it didn’t distract us. I’ve done plenty of initiatives that demanded constant oversight. This one didn’t. It delivered what it promised, with no drain on management time. That’s rare.

My Takeaway

As a Managing Director, I’m used to being pitched projects that sound clever but tie up resources and deliver little. Power Factor Wizard broke that pattern. No Capex. No hassle. Real savings. If you’re like me,  business-savvy, always weighing visible returns against background improvements, then you’ll appreciate how different this feels.
